ITS-NY encourages the involvement and perspectives of all sectors – public, private, and academic – in information sharing and discussion of best practices.
Growth Through Learning
ITS-NY fosters Professional Development. ITS-NY provides extensive professional networking opportunities covering all surface modes of transportation across public-private-academic sectors. ITS-NY facilitates Members’ continuing professional development through outreach and through educational meetings and workshops with Professional Development Hour/Continuing Education Units issuance. ITS-NY encourages mentoring to inspire “next generation” ITS participants by ITS-NY’s Members.
Member Recognition & Service
ITS-NY serves its members and recognizes achievements. ITS-NY acknowledges and recognizes ITS achievements of its members through awards, recognitions, and issuance of press releases and Member news. ITS-NY provides association services that are relevant, timely, and aligned with the ITS-NY Mission and Member needs.
What is ITS?
ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems and Services) is the integrated application of advanced sensor, computer, electronics, and communications technologies and management strategies to increase the safety and efficiency of the surface transportation system. Improving mobility and transportation productivity while conserving energy resources and reducing adverse environmental effects can all result from the application of ITS.
ITS is a reality – actual systems, products and services are deployed right now. From computerized traffic signal systems to maintain coordination between traffic lights — to increasing mobility through electronic toll collection systems such as E-ZPass — to improving efficiency through traveler information systems such as route guidance and dynamic message signs on the roadway — to web sites that provide graphics and video feeds of real-time traffic conditions – these are just some of the ITS applications in use, and there are many, many more.
